The Association for Popular Music Education is pleased to announce our 2023 conference will be held at Loyola University in New Orleans, LA from May 31–June 3, 2023. The conference will be held in-person and virtually in a hybrid setting.
Change is constant, yet the world has seen a greater upheaval the past two years in all areas of life and society than has been seen in recent history. Popular music education has been impacted in many ways to create a new landscape for educators and musicians. What communities are newly finding their voices or are working to overcome institutional and structural barriers? How do we support more communities and help all feel welcome in popular music education? What new ways of collaborating have emerged since the pandemic? What critiques emerge about “the way things are done” in popular music education versus new or reimagined ways? The APME conference offers time for community, collaboration, and critique through discussions, demonstrations, research, panels, workshops, and performances that paint a new landscape for popular music education.
Performances: APME LIVE! Student Festival
The APME LIVE Student Festival features a non-competitive performance and clinic opportunity that provides an encouraging educational atmosphere for all to perform for peers and the local community. Additionally, all performers also take part in sessions to learn from a team of outstanding popular music clinicians and professional musicians. All middle school, high school, and collegiate popular music ensembles, producers, and soloists are encouraged to participate.

Hotel Information
We have secured room blocks with two hotels closest to Loyola University. The Hampton Inn and the St. Charles Inn are located on St. Charles Ave. in the Garden District, directly across the street from one another. They are located on the historic St. Charles Streetcar line, and are approximately 15 min by streetcar and 40 min walking distance to the conference location. Rooms are available May 31–June 4.
